Always remember this first principle of Ayurveda while using kitchen spices in your meal, “like increases the like, opposite brings the balance”. It is interesting to know that when a Dosha is out of balance, then we feel craving for the food that will actually drive that Dosha further out of balance. Therefore, a disciplined practice of yoga essentially go well to inculcate the Ayurvedic way of life in one’s life.
The moment you open up your spices basket, first feel your body deeply before using any spices. If you are feeling warm or hot or irritable like pitta has aggravated, then its a good idea to use cooling, neutral or calming herbs like fennel, cardamom, dry mint, or coriander. On the other hand, if you are feeling the cold quality of Vata or Kapha, then it may be a good idea to bring out the warming herbs like cumin, mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds, black pepper, cinnamon, or nutmeg.
